As an ongoing service, American service men and women landing at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport are warmly welcomed by the USO and Rotary Club volunteers. They are also treated to a lunch of American favorites for a touch of hometown hospitality. In November 2011, volunteers from the North Fulton Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Windward joined the USO in giving out Chick-fil-A sandwiches, drinks, chips, doughnuts and proud smiles. Donations were raised from local businesses to make this special welcome possible. Williams, Horning & Company, LLC and WealthGuard Advisory Group, LLC were among the proud sponsors.

Our own John Williams, who serves as treasurer for the Rotary Club of Windward, said, “We are very proud and deeply grateful for the service and sacrifice service men and women make on behalf of our country. We hope this welcome made them feel at home while they were with us in Atlanta and they felt the heartfelt gratitude we all have for them.”

We welcome all our troops coming home this holiday season and send our support and prayers with those traveling onward to their deployments.

This year while earning his Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Mike Cotterell School of Business at North Georgia College & State University, our own Mark Bennett had the opportunity to participate in a very rewarding project. Through the graduate school, he and classmates Jacque Earp, Casey Allison, Raegan Harvey and Nick Townsend worked as a team to develop a new marketing and business plan for the local non-profit organization, Interactive Neighborhood for Kids, or INK. The project lasted about six months.

INK’s mission is to provide children the opportunity to learn through hands-on learning experiences. It is an interactive children’s museum featuring learning activities in healthcare, banking and money management. With its location in Gainesville, INK is very accessible to the children of Hall County and all of Northeast Georgia.

The marketing plan the team developed was designed to increase museum visitation and improve its outreach in the community. The business plan set up a framework for integrating the management, accounting, and marketing activities of the business and provided informative documentation about the business for potential donors.

We are very proud of Mark Bennett and what his team accomplished for INK. Mark sums up his feelings about the experience with, “It was a great opportunity to work with Sheri Hooper, the Executive Director of INK. Our team really enjoyed working on a project where we could utilize our experience and education to help make a difference in our community.”

If you are interested in visiting INK’s museum, it is located at 999 Chestnut Street in Gainesville, GA. For more information about INK, try their website, http://www.inkfun.org/.
